Kane - Cane Corso / Mastiff Mix - Rescue Profile Animal ID: IEPA-A-18272 Breed: Cane Corso / Mastiff Mix Sex: Male Age: 1 year 9 months Weight: 96 lbs Intake Date: 11/14/2025 Arrival Type: Stray (no microchip) Neuter Status: Not yet neutered - will be neutered prior to transfer (covered by shelter). Temperament & Personality: Kane is a young Cane Corso mix with the personality of a big playful puppy. Despite his size, he still behaves like an adolescent dog and enjoys interaction, play, and physical affection. He is a staff and volunteer favorite due to his loving, social nature. In the play yard, Kane enjoys close interaction with people - belly rubs, hugs, and leaning into his handler for affection. He seeks connection with people and thrives on attention. Although he can become excited during play (like a typical large puppy), he is responsive to direction and settles quickly when redirected. Kane knows the basic commands 'sit' and 'down,' which he follows reliably when asked. During walks in the park he is cooperative and walks well on a harness and leash. He often pauses during walks to relax and request belly rubs. Kane is obedient, eager to learn, and highly treat-motivated, making him very trainable. Behavior Notes: Kane is essentially a 96-lb adolescent puppy and still displays puppy behaviors such as jumping, hugging, or mouthing gently during play. However: He has never shown aggressive behavior No growling, snapping, or biting observed No food or toy guarding In the kennel environment he shows stress behaviors (jumping and barking to get attention), which is common in shelter environments, especially for young active dogs. Outside the kennel he settles and interacts appropriately with people. Social Skills: Dogs: Good with other dogs. Cats: Not tested. Children: Best suited for children 10+ years old due to his size and playful energy. Health: Fully vaccinated Heartworm negative No known medical issues Cherry eye present - will be corrected during scheduled neuter surgery (covered by shelter) Ideal Home: Kane would do best in a home that: Has experience with large breeds or guardian-type dogs Can provide structure, training, and regular exercise Understands the responsibilities of owning a large dog Because of his affectionate and social personality, Kane has the potential to become a wonderful family companion. With consistent guidance and training, he can mature into a loyal and well-mannered dog. Additional Notes: No bite history inside or outside the kennel. Staff and volunteer favorite. Transportation assistance can be coordinated if needed.
