Courtesy Posting: PACIFICA, CA (N CAL, just south of SAN FRAN)- ADORABLE AND FRIENDLY, SMALLER 11 MO CHOW PUPPY 'SIMBA' WHO WAS RECENTLY RESCUED, AND NOW LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME, IDEALLY W PRIOR CHOW OR LONG TERM DOG EXPERIENCE - good with dogs, respectful kids Please help us find a loving and forever home for dear Simba, who was rescued by a good Samaritan from a home who could no longer care for him due to the large number of dogs in the home. Simba was originally malnourished, but is now 32 lbs and is expected to grow a bit larger as turns 1 year old in April. Simba has since been vaccinated, HW negative, and is being neutered March 6th. His foster tell us, 'Over the past several weeks, Simba has made tremendous progress. He has gained 10 healthy pounds (from 22 lbs to 32 lbs), is now in excellent physical condition, and has blossomed emotionally. He bonded with me within two weeks - he now asks for affection, sleeps in our bed, and follows me from room to room. He is house-trained, absolutely loves other dogs (very pack-oriented), and is good with children - shy but curious and gentle.' Additionally, she said, 'Simba is very shy and timid at first, but incredibly sweet, intelligent, and gentle. It took about two weeks for him to fully open up and begin seeking affection from me and my husband. He loves affection and will actively seek out pets. His favorite thing to do is sleep in our bed and diligently asks for morning snuggles. He takes food very gently from your hand. He loves other dogs and was raised with four children and four other dogs (5 total including him). He is curious but cautious with new people and children, and warms up much more quickly when allowed to approach at his own pace rather than being approached. He loves long exploratory walks and hikes.' 'He willingly leaves the apartment for walks but is hesitant to return inside because he does not want the walk to end. I sit down next to him and say, 'up, up' and gently pick him up to bring him back in. He would thrive in a positive reinforcement home with a backyard and another confident dog. He shows no resource guarding of food or toys. He rides very well in the car, enjoys sitting on my lap. His energy level is calm and low inside the home, and higher outside where he enjoys sniffing and playing with other dogs. He is comfortable being left alone for a few hours at a time.' 'Simba is very shy and timid initially, but extremely gentle and sweet. He has never shown aggression EVER. He takes time to warm up and prefers to approach people at his own pace. If people ignore him initially, he becomes curious, sniffs, and gradually builds comfort. He warms up more quickly to people who have dogs. He takes longer to warm up to visitors who come without a dog present. Once comfortable, he is friendly with adults, children, and other dogs. He has not been tested with cats.' We have nice video of Simba interacting with his foster and showing how loving he can be, as well as with other dogs. He has no reported bites or medical issues, and lived previously in a home with other dogs and children. We are now looking for a chow and or dog savvy forever home who understands the breed, and also that puppies need continual training, to take precautions, and with chows, proper socialization with others. If you are interested in meeting and adopting Simba, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with his placement. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior chows, and a signed adoption contract and a $200 rehoming fee to help offset the costs of vetting.
