BASIC FACTS Breed: Chiweenie Color: Tan & White Age: 9 years Gender: Male, neutered Size: small 14 pounds House-trained: Yes Crate trained: No Good with Kids: Yes, nervous at first Good with Dogs: Yes, nervous at first Good with Cats: Unknown Concerns: He is very food motivated but showed no signs of snapping while eating and was not aggressive towards his foster sister while being fed treats or meals. He is very skittish when meeting new people, lots of barking and anxious behavior but after 10 minutes or so and calm movements by the person, he does relax. We found that letting him come to you is the best approach, as he seems to be a bit hand shy at first. Not a flight risk but if given an opportunity to go outside, he will take it. He LOVES barking at every single sound he hears while outside. BIOGRAPHY Meet Giles! Giles came into rescue after he was surrendered by his owner to a dog shelter. Being an older dog with some medical needs, he needed a rescue to save him. While Giles may have been an owner-surrender, it's clear that he was once in a loving home. He wants nothing more than to be near his humans and absolutely adores being petted and having his neck and back scratched. He is a pro at going potty and walks well on a leash, probably a good idea to get him a harness though because he's a fast walker! He knows how to play fetch and loves small, soft stuffies; just know that he can and will destroy them at will, lol! He loves treats and can sit with encouragement; he also does the cutest little paw-begging move and will occasionally bark with excitement for food. It seems he was fed table scraps but we're trying to break the habit of him begging during dinner time, with great success so far! His signature move is to completely cover himself with whatever soft blanket is available to him and curl up for a nap. He will do well with someone able to give him 30 minutes of activity/playtime a day with lots of naptime sprinkled in! He's quite the barker when playing outside and will serve as neighborhood watch for all within earshot! I believe he could learn to stay by your side off leash while outside with patience and proper training as he leans towards 'velcro dog'! He seems to prefer canned or wet food over dry kibbles but was fed a mixture of homemade food and dry while in foster. He will wear a coat or sweater but it's not his favorite and is sure to wriggle free from it at some point! Like most small dogs, he enjoys a sunny spot for napping and lounging. He showed no interest or fear of the crate but still wanted nothing to do with it and slept well on any soft dog bed provided. He also slept well in his foster parents' bed with no issues! Giles is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Powell, OH and is available for an adoption fee of $350.00.
