About Orson

Orson (A286659) is not broken. He's scared. And he's running out of time. Will be put down March 3, by 4pm Orson came to us after being attacked by another dog. He arrived terrified, and honestly, he still is. The shelter is just too much for him. He lives in constant survival mode here. He doesn't sleep. He's always on high alert. His body trembles. His eyes scan. He's just trying to make it through each day. But something incredible happens when Orson leaves the building. On walks, away from the noise and chaos, he starts to relax. His breathing slows. His body softens. He seeks affection. He leans in. He lets himself trust. And then we head back toward the shelter�'�| And the fear comes rushing back. He shakes before we even reach the door. Orson isn't aggressive. He isn't difficult. He isn't damaged beyond hope. He is traumatized. He has been failed. And he desperately needs a safe place to land. Orson warms up quickly to kind, patient people. He wants connection. He wants to feel safe. He just needs someone who understands that healing takes time. Because of his fear, Orson is considered a flight risk. He will need a secure yard with adequate fencing and a home committed to keeping him safe while he learns the world isn't out to hurt him. He doesn't need perfection. He needs patience. He needs quiet. He needs someone who sees that he's not broken, he's just been surviving. Right now, Orson is on a euthanasia deadline simply because he cannot cope in this environment.
