Big Boy is an approximately 4 year-old 130 lb male Great Pyrenes who was found wandering alongside Hwy 101 in San Jose in Feb. 2025 without a collar in the rain. He was neutered but had no chip and no one responded to the 'found dog' notices I posted. He was sweet, loving, affectionate, easy-going, well-behaved, we fostered him for 2 months in Oakland, CA, in a spacious home with a backyard where he enjoyed the companionship of another medium-sized dog. A relative wanted to adopt him so we drove him to San Diego in May 2025, where he unfortunately ended up being confined daily to a small space by himself. Eventually another small dog was adopted to ease his anxiety but some basic needs were not being consistently met. He endured regular confinement over an 8-month period and developed problematic anxiety-driven behaviors. He destroyed household items frequently and started getting dosed every day with trazadone. We re-rescued him and brought him back to Oakland to foster again on February 18, 2026. Immediately all destructive behavior immediately ceased. He is the most wonderful dog and we're searching for an ideal home with a loving family where he will be happy. We are willing to foster him for a few months in the meantime. He loves chasing a bouncy ball but isn't interested in sticks. He is really cute when he tries to make sure you don't stop petting him, he stretches out his paw and touches you to encourage the petting to never stop. Loves having the inside of his ears rubbed. He's just chilling out most of the day! Not at all barky, not overly fixated on food. Big Boy loves walks and naps and snacks. He just wants to hang out with people and have 2 or 3 walks a day. He is very easy-going. Big boy will be happiest with a family that lives in a spacious-enough home, preferably with a well-fenced yard and another dog for companionship. He loves people and affectionate attention. Cannot be confined to small spaces alone. He is gentle and sweet, displays all the best traits of the breed. Family that adopted him for 8 months couldn't meet his needs. Confinement-induced anxiety and isolation led him to act out in destructive ways. The family could not cope so we took him in again. Once his circumstances improved, he had space and was no longer being left in a small room by himself, all destructive behavior immediately ceased. He is housetrained, lets you know when he wants to go out. Sometimes he will pull on his leash when he gets interested in sniffing something. He likes being around people, shouldn't be left alone. Neutered. Up to date vaccinations and current flea/tick prevention. Had recent teeth cleaning. Big Boy exhibits all of the wonderful traits Great Pyrenes are known for. He's very affectionate and gets all goofy-silly with excitement right before a walk. His presence is very calming, his eyes are soulful and his is tremendously loving. no special needs.
