Courtesy Posting: SAVED ON HER FINAL DAY FROM THE LA CITY SHELTER, LEONA NOW NEEDS A LOVING HOME, or committed foster, SO SHE IS NOT STUCK IN BOARDING- beautiful female chow mix, only 49 lbs, enjoys other dogs, already vetted and ready to go home Meet Leona. This dear girl was placed on the euthanasia list due to needing medical at the time. Leona was found as a stray in horribly neglected condition, missing much of her fur, and brought to the LA City shelter beginning of November. She has been estimated to be between 3-5 years old, weighs 49 lbs, and was previously spayed. On Leona's final day, an out of state chow rescue stepped up to save her seeing her potential in videos the shelter provided. Since then, the rescue has provided extensive vetting and treated her skin condition. Her beautiful fur is already filling in, and will soon be stunning! Leona is a very lovely, shy girl that likes keeping to herself like many chows, but is socially tolerant, takes corrections without a problem, and has a gentle and dainty playstyle. She greets people she trust with a tail wag. In the play yard with other dogs recently with a trainer, she can be seen happily running around in video we have. She was described by this trainer as: 'Overall calm temperament, Sweet, gentle, and shy girl. Also: %BD' Dog-friendly with both large and small dogs %BD' Good with people; shy at first and benefits from slow introductions %BD' Does not engage much in play; prefers to keep to herself and sniff %BD' Comfortable with touch and handling %BD' Nervous around loud noises %BD' Does great on leash %BD' Handles small or enclosed spaces well (crate trained) %BD' Once comfortable, very affectionate %BD' Enjoys jumping into arms, cuddling, and receiving pets' Additionally, after thorough Vet exam, and tests, Leona was found to have dry eye issues and a condition called Keratoconjunctivitis, which is inadequate tear production, causing redness, and pain if untreated. Therefore, Leona will need eye ointments or drops administered daily and continuously. The rescue can provide this to fosters, and initially to adopters. We are now looking for a loving home or foster to get her out of boarding, and the home she truly deserves. A 'Meet & Greet' at the Boarding facility in Santa Paula can be arranged through the rescue, ADR.org, by appointment. The trainer and caretaker may be present as well. If you think Leona would be a good friend and pet for you, or to foster, please reach out via email to: [email protected] for questions. An application will need to be completed and returned to meeting her. You may also contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is local and assisting the rescue with Leona.
