Meet Fig !! This sweet older lady is one of the 13 dogs we took in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water and no electricity for a very long time. Poor girl was in rough shape and so defeated when she arrived. Fig is an at least 5 old female we suspect she may be older than that. She looks like a chihuahua mix. She weighs 7 Pounds. She will be spayed, have a dental, be up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. This sweet lady just wants a warm place to snuggle and a safe home. She has been through a lot and you can see it on her face. She seems to prefer a low-key household where she can relax and not be on edge. Fig adores a kind person. She loves to be wrapped up in blankets. She enjoys being carried around in a baby sling or anywhere warm and safe. She really had it rough in the hoarding house. All the dogs had to fight for limited food and resources. She was very thin when she arrived and we think she was on the losing end of those battles. Due to this she is very apprehensive about other dogs. She can coexist with them but prefers a dog that will leave her alone and not be hyper or in her face. She is the same way with cats. She wont bother them but will bark at them if they get close to her. She may end up getting used to a calm dog or cat buddy in her new home she will just need time to see they are not going to hurt her. She is not fostered with kids but she is very sweet natured. We think she would do fine with calmer kids that can give her space and be more relaxed in the home around her. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. A sweet, low energy kid with a lap to cuddle in would likely make her very happy. Fig doesn't mind being in a crate as long as she has blankets to snuggle in. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She is very new to leash training and is very scared of the leash as well as being outdoors so it is slow going. She gets scared when she feels the tension on the leash. She will need a lot more time to get settled and used to the outdoors and the leash. She is not fully potty trained. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else. She will potty in her crate still but is learning to use puppy pads. She is working on learning about going outside to potty. It is taking some time as she is afraid of being outside and the leash. Her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history. Fig is has not had any issues sharing food with people. We do give her space to eat alone from other animals so she doesn't feel rushed. Given her history of having to fight other dogs just to eat it would be a good idea to always give her alone time with her food. She deserves to feel comfortable when she is eating. She is starting to find her voice after a few days in her foster home. She will bark if she has an accident in her kennel or if she hears someone pull into the driveway. She will also bark when she is afraid of things like the vacuum or hairdryer. Really this sweet baby just needs to have a safe place to land and learn that everything is safe now. Fig has a low energy level so far. She would be perfect for a senior home or someone who wants a very easy going dog. She loves a crate full of blankets to snuggle in or on top of you on the couch. She may get a little more energetic once she fully decompresses but we think she will be a low energy dog overall. We are so sad that this dog's life has been so bad for so long. We are hoping someone will fall in love with her and give her a wonderful life from here on out. Don't pass up the senior dogs! They really do have so much love to offer.
