About BENJI

BENJI is a 2-year-old cream Maltese/Shih Tzu mix weighing about 9 pounds who came into rescue when his owner developed medical issues and could no longer care for him. He's an absolute sweetheart with a fun, affectionate personality and a whole lot of love to give. BENJI adores people and thrives on attention. He's a cuddler through and through. Belly rubs, face smushes, kisses, and snuggling are all high on his favorites list. He will occasionally bark at newcomers or unfamiliar sounds around the home but settles quickly once he realizes everything is okay. Benji is perfect with the other dogs in his foster home and really enjoys canine companionship. One of his cutest daily rituals is morning zoomies with a foster sibling... racing outside, through the house, and back again with impressive speed. While another small dog friend would be great for him, it isn't required as long as his adopter is home often and ready to keep him engaged, active, and included in daily life. We do not know how he would be cats and think kids will be just fine with his personality. BENJI is housetrained, though like many dogs he may mark briefly while adjusting to a new environment. He walks nicely on leash, travels well in the car (usually drifting off for a nap), and has learned to take treats gently and wait his turn. He has not shown any digging or escaping tendencies and enjoys supervised outdoor time. A fenced yard would be ideal simply because he loves being outside. At night, BENJI happily sleeps in the big bed, often on his back with all four paws in the air, completely relaxed and content. BENJI is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. We adopt within a 6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally (within 1 hour to Pensacola).
