Meet Charlie - Your 125-Pound Shadow Charlie is a goofy, big-hearted Great Dane who simply wants to love and be close to his person. He does take a few days to warm up, but once he feels safe, he becomes the ultimate Velcro companion. His favorite place is as close to you as possible - ideally sharing your bed, where he politely stays on his side without taking over all the covers. Charlie forms deep bonds, particularly with women, and is very attached to his foster's daughter. He is more cautious with men but has been making steady progress with time and patience. Once he trusts you, he is incredibly loyal and affectionate. Charlie has moderate energy. He enjoys playful bursts throughout the day, especially with toys, followed by long naps on the couch. He loves balls and soft squeaky toys and will toss them into the air and try to catch them. He has an impressive vertical jump, even if his catching skills are still a work in progress. He also adores the larger Dane in his foster home and will squeeze into the smallest space just to be near him. He is very food motivated and eats quickly, so he currently uses a slow feeder. Because of his strong interest in food, he will investigate any unattended meals, including the cat's food. Charlie rides well in the car and knows 'sit.' Leash walking is still a work in progress, as he does not enjoy the leash and can be hesitant about going out the door. He is partially housetrained and will need continued consistency and routine in his new home. Charlie lives with a large Dane and has interacted well with a small Yorkie. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has not shown size preference - he simply wants a friend. He has also been around a cat without issue, aside from attempting to sample the cat's food. Medically, Charlie has a BB pellet in his left front shoulder area and one on his head. They are not currently causing any issues, but adopters should be aware. Charlie's ideal home is with a patient adopter who will give him time to build trust and continue working on leash skills and confidence. He would likely thrive with another friendly dog to bond with and learn from. Most importantly, he needs a home that understands he is a large, affectionate dog who truly wants to be part of the family. For someone willing to earn his trust, Charlie will be a devoted, loving companion who simply wants to stay as close to you as possible.
