About Barley

We need to rehome our 4 yr old black mouth cur, Barley! He is extremely loving, sweet, and obedient, but we have discovered he is very reactive around small children (we have a 2 year old). He was originally adopted from Austin Animal Center (they will not take him back, as we live in Hays county...) in 2022. We have had some behavioral concerns over the last 6-12 months as our daughter has gotten older, so we have been trying to find a better home for him actively for the last 6 months with no luck. He bit our 2 yr old on 5/20/2026 - minor cut on her lip, but did require medical attention, so he is currently in bite-quarantine at San Marcos shelter, and we will be picking him up again on 5/30. We'd like to have a home lined up for him, as we are not comfortable having him back in our home long term (a day or 2 can be managed). He is crate-trained, housetrained, walks well on a leash, very food motivated, very sweet and cuddly with both my husband and I. ABSOLUTELY no small children in the home, ideally no other dogs, but he has warmed up with our older dog with time and training - so that wouldn't necessarily be a forever thing. He would need a very slow, intentional, introduction in a neutral territory. Please message me if you'd like more info, or if you have any leads/recommendations!
