TUCKER is a 11 year old, 19 pound Shih Tzu who came into rescue when his elderly owner needed major surgery and could no longer properly care for him. He was very well loved and well cared for and we promised to find him the best home. TUCKER loves being near his person and will happily greet you whether you've been gone for hours or just stepped out briefly. He is exceptionally quiet, we have only heard him bark once, but he may softly whimper if he feels lonely or can't find his person. While he's not especially kissy, he shows his devotion by wanting to be close. He is a sweet, easy companion who wants love, comfort, and someone to share his quiet days with. TUCKER has done very well with the three dogs he's met in foster care and coexists peacefully with them. He would be fine with another calm dog. He was an only dog previously and would also be good as someone's sole companion dog, if he isn't left alone for long periods of time. Cats are unknown, but given his laid-back personality, he would likely ignore a cat. He was fine with a respectful younger child that he met but generally a quieter home would suit him best. TUCKER is potty trained and goes to the door when he needs out. He only two accidents during his initial adjustment period. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys short, calm walks, which he is taking daily as part of his weight loss plan. He rides beautifully in the car and especially enjoys sitting in his car seat watching the world go by. He is slightly hearing impaired, so visual cues or a gentle clap help get his attention, but his eyesight appears good. He is not a big toy player but will occasionally pick one up if another dog brings it out. At night, TUCKER absolutely loves sleeping in the big bed and prefers nestling into pillows or blankets. He will often use the doggy stairs too put himself to bed or nap there independently. TUCKER is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
