Do you set an alarm for 5 am to go running? Keep scrolling. Do you love long walks on the beach? Keep scrolling. Do you like a dog who sleeps in, waits patiently for you to wake up, and believes mornings should be taken slowly? Mabel could be your girl. Meet Mabel, a senior, deaf Boxer mix weighing 46 pounds and fully committed to a relaxed lifestyle. Mabel will happily softly snore until you are ready to get up. Mabel loves sleeping in bed with her people, and while she's very happy to be there, she will need a little help getting in and out of bed. Once she's settled, she's not going anywhere-except maybe deeper into dreamland. If her people let her sleep in bed with them, she sleeps peacefully through the night. Mabel will need a home with a physically fenced yard so she has a safe space to enjoy her slow-paced outdoor time. Mabel came into rescue under heartbreaking circumstances. She was abandoned by the senior minister at Highway Christian Church in Bethany when he moved away, leaving her behind and vulnerable to coyotes. Despite that betrayal, Mabel still believes people can be good and is ready for a soft place to land. She does great with other dogs and prefers calm companions. Mabel has osteoarthritis in her front elbows, which have been fully evaluated with X-rays and a CT scan at BluePearl Des Moines. Because of this, her exercise needs are minimal. She takes an NSAID twice a day to help keep her comfortable. We also have her taking a supplement called Senilife, which is designed to combat brain aging and cognitive decline. Being deaf doesn't slow Mabel down one bit. She's observant, gentle, and incredibly easy to live with. Mabel would love a home where her people are around much of the time, as she truly enjoys the comfort of being close to her humans. Her ideal home is one that values cozy nights, slow mornings, and unconditional love. If you're looking for a sweet, snoring, bed-sharing couch potato who will happily match your pace, Mabel is ready to move in. Mabel is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She has had full blood work done and it looks great. If you'd like to meet Mabel, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about Mabel you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657. Indoor homes only. Adopters need to be within 2 hours of Cedar Rapids, IA. Adoption fee is $250.
