Ernie's former owner lived with Ernie a couple of blocks from us in the same neighborhood. The owner got sick and his relatives took him to assisted living. However, they left Ernie behind - alone. After some time I and some other neighbors started feeding Ernie, to which he looked forward quite a lot. He would sit in the driveway, apparently waiting for his owner to return. Then workmen came to redo the house and there was not place for Ernie to even sit and eat anymore. My wife and I found Ernie under a tree and brought him home with us. We set him up on our secure screened porch with a nice crate and small heater for cold nights. He has a nice litter box, which he took to right away. I built a climbing house and scratching post for him, both of which he likes very much. I also got him lots of catnip and other toys that he likes playing with. We took Ernie to the vet, where he got a rabies shot and a full checkup. We're taking him again tomorrow to our other vet for a fecal sample to make sure there are no parasites. He's had a flea/tick treatment also. The vet appointment tomorrow is with our vet for our dogs, who also has her own cats. We hope to get some insight from her about whether it's possible for Ernie to 'blend in' with our two dogs. They are older. Our mini pinscher is mostly blind, but quite active. Our chihuahua-Jack Russell is feisty and sometimes tries to chase cats in the neighborhood. So, all said, we are doubtful whether the dogs will accept Ernie. But we want Ernie to have a good home and happy life. We know he is much better off now (even confined to our 12x12 foot screened porch) than before, but we want him to live his best life. I have a formal letter from the son of the owner (who has power of attorney from his father - Ernie's [former] owner, allowing me to obtain vet care and do whatever is required for Ernie. Please help us find Ernie a forever home! Thx!
