Apple is a diabetic 9 year old corgi. She is slightly obese, by around 4-6 pounds but with the help of her next home could definitely get to a normal corgi weight. Unfortunately with job circumstances, her medication is more difficult to afford. The biggest reason for rehoming Apple is that she isn't getting the love and attention any dog deserves. We are looking for someone who is willing and able to give her lots of love, slow and steady walks to help her weight, and who is dedicated to continuing her diabetic care. Apple is very sweet, loving, and wanting to be a cuddle bug. She has always had her own bed and even a crib mattress for more support. She has lived with a cat and larger dog. She got along well with both of them, following them around and just wanting to sniff them. She would bark when either of them jumped on the bed or high furniture, likely because she couldn't jump to those levels. At dog parks she does mostly lay there and just bark at other dogs. Sometimes she will 'heard' them and nip at their ankles but she has never bit one. She currently lives with 2 small children, a big reason that she doesn't get the love and attention she should. She loves to follow them around, beg for snacks, and lick them. If they come to her she may grunt/growl but gets up and moves, never bothering or biting them. Apple is currently up to date on vaccines. She's had several teeth cleanings over the years and even done water therapy for weight loss. She's had lots of support in losing 15 pounds, but that was when we had more time and attention to give. She is a barker, like most corgis. She mostly just wants to hear herself and let people know she is there. Once she is acknowledged she wags her nubby tail and goes for the lick. If she's just outside sitting alone, she barks at the wind but enjoys sunbathing so much. We love Apple so much and hate to make this decision but do feel it is best for her.
