LOCATION:Converse TX DOB: 04/15/2023 Meet Laverne, a beautiful pibald Great Dane with a tender heart, a gentle spirit, and a personality that's blooming more every day. When she first arrived in rescue, she was completely shut down and unsure of the world around her. Today, she has begun to trust, bond deeply, and even show her goofy side - and watching her transformation has been nothing short of heartwarming. Laverne is generally a calm girl who enjoys a peaceful home and a predictable routine. She's happy with a short daily walk, a relaxing car ride (one of her favorite things!), and some quiet time in the backyard. What she loves most, though, is being close to her person. She follows her foster from room to room, gently paws for more affection, and melts into snuggles like she's been waiting for them her whole life. When she's excited - especially at mealtime or when her person comes home - she does the sweetest little happy dance. As Laverne has grown more confident, she has also begun showing signs of jealousy and resource guarding, particularly with her toys, food, and her person. She is very sensitive and gets her feelings hurt easily when corrected, sometimes retreating to her room to pout. She has lived with other large dogs - both males and females - and has done well with some, especially calm, respectful larger males who give her space. She can struggle with dogs who are pushy or overly energetic, so a home with a well-matched larger male or as an only dog would be the safest and most comfortable fit for her. Cats are unknown. Laverne walks well on leash at times but can be inconsistent, particularly in new environments. She is fully housetrained, crate trained, and non-destructive. She does well having her own space and appreciates a slower pace when meeting new people or experiencing new things. She is selective about men but has never had issues with women, and she does best in a calm home with older teens or adults. Patience, gentle handling, and a quiet environment help her feel secure and allow her personality to continue blossoming. Medically, Laverne previously had severe bilateral cherry eye that required surgery, which has since healed well. She also has an arthritic hind ankle, likely from an old injury, that gives her a slight hitch in her giddy-up if she overdoes it, but it remains well managed with daily joint supplements. Additionally, she has a mildly enlarged esophagus (not megaesophagus), which can occasionally cause burping or rare vomiting. Her foster manages this successfully with omeprazole when needed. Laverne has made incredible progress but still has more growing to do. She thrives with people who move at her pace, speak softly, and give her the time she needs to feel safe. She loves treats, loves hugs, and loves being part of a quiet home where she can relax and continue learning that the world isn't as scary as she once believed. She would do best with a mature, patient adopter or couple who can spend plenty of time with her, provide thoughtful structure, and allow her to blossom on her own terms. With the right family, Laverne will be a deeply loyal, affectionate companion who will reward you with unwavering devotion and the very best Great Dane cuddles. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
