Meekah is a beautiful husky/shepard mix who came to NY back in May when she was pulled from a high kill shelter in TX just hours before she was euthanized. Meekah is honestly amazing and she is often the good example for some of the new pack members here. She is curious, intelligent, resilient and playful. Like most huskies, the curiosity can lead to a need for guidance and corrections, but once she establishes trust and learns what you want her to do, she is eager to please. Meekah is more reserved and apprehensive of new people than most of the dogs here, but it's understandable given her history. We often aren't able to learn about the past of our rescues, but I did learn that Meekah was abandoned by her owner that had her since she was a puppy and was left in a family members back yard. This family member claimed she had to 're-home her' to a high kill shelter in San Antonio, TX bc she would chase her cats. Meekah was admitted to the shelter on April 3rd and was placed on the euthanasia list in 5 days, due to overcrowding, fearful behavior (making her less likely to be adopted) and a leg injury. ( Likely from being hit by a car or some kind of previous trauma according to the vet.) When Meekah got here she was extremely underweight , had a bad limp with her back legs and had no fat or muscle on her back hips and legs. (The vet said that this was due to being confined and stationary for so long.) Now Meekah runs through the woods on pack walks, has gained a healthy 15 pounds and is learning that she can receive safety, trust and love from humans.
