About Honey

Honey the Heeler needs a home ASAP URGENT: Sweet Red Heeler needs a home by Feb 15! (Spay Included) We are looking for a special home for Honey, a beautiful Red Heeler/Cattle Dog (approx. 4-5 years old, ~45lbs). The Good: Honey is a total 'Velcro dog.' She is incredibly loyal, sweet, and perfectly well-behaved inside the house and in a secure backyard. She is doing great with our resident male dog and is highly responsive to training. The Outreach So Far: I have already contacted/posted to: Facebook, IG, Petco Love Lost, Santa Ynez Valley Chat, PawBoost, Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue, Aussie Rescue, King of the Hammers, High Desert Roaming Dogs, SYVHS, SB Humane, Leslie Bloomer, Victoria Feld, and many more. Now, I am reaching out to you. We cannot keep Honey past the 14th. The Needs: Training: She knows sit, down, leave it, and off. We are working on place and recall. She needs continued work on socialization and leash skills in public. I have been training her EVERY day and will continue until she leaves our home. Security: She is a high flight risk and requires an owner who understands the breed and has a very secure, fenced yard. Compatibility: She is great with our resident dog. We have not cat-tested her, and due to her breed's drive, an adult-only or experienced home is likely best. Medical: She is currently in heat (although that should be ending soon). SYVHS will spay her AT NO COST as soon as she has a home. We are working with Dr. Shawna on deciding the timing of her spay. The adopter/foster must be able to provide a calm environment for her to heal. Status: She is currently in a 'shelter-in-place' situation with us because local shelters are at capacity. Her official stray-hold period ends February 11th, making her fully available for adoption then. Honey has so much heart and just needs a breed-savvy human to give her a chance.
