About New Guy

Meet New Guy! This little survivor is currently making up for lost time. A 3-ish year old, full Australian Cattle Dog, he spent the first part of his life as a breeding dog in a neglectful basement setting. Because he likely never saw the outside world until last month, he is essentially a puppy in an adult body. Every walk or car ride is a brand new adventure for him. Despite his background, New Guy adores people. He is a world-class snuggler, and politely asks for pets from everyone he meets. While he shies away from fast movement/loud noises and can be timid with new faces, he warms up remarkably fast, especially for a heeler. Once he knows you are 'safe,' he's all in. New Guy is house and crate trained, and is learning basic commands. He is a bundle of energy, and would thrive with a job in an active household. He is good at settling indoors if he feels secure. The little rapscallion is very smart, and is clearly trying to learn the rules of the world. Helping him do so is a joy! His tenacity and intelligence are already helping him overcome the challenges he faces from his traumatic past. Because the world is so new to him, New Guy is reactive toward most other dogs, especially young males. It's clearly fear-based; he doesn't just know how to 'dog' yet. His recent neuter and continued careful socialization are helping with this, but he may not be suited for a home with other high energy dogs. He has not been tested with cats or other pets. New Guy is currently recovering from mange, so he's looking a little scruffy right now and gets cold easily. He is also underweight. He otherwise has a clean bill of health, is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and is gaining strength every day! He is around 30 lb and will still be a little guy once he is at a healthy weight. The Ideal Home New Guy would thrive in a heeler savvy home where he can be the star! His ideal adopter is someone who can provide the patience needed for a smart working breed dog who is a bit of a fixer upper. If you are looking for a cuddly, silly BFF who will be eternally grateful for a warm bed and a job to do, New Guy is ready to meet you!
