She has been a part of our family her entire life, so rehoming her is a terribly difficult decision to make for our family. Unfortunately, our work schedules and some personal family issues have caused our ability to provide her with the attention, care, and mental stimulation she requires to become inadequate. Kifli is a 'Covid puppy:' She was born just before Covid and we got her a month before everything shut down. She grew up with our family with her at all times as we were homebound her first year of life, so she has some mild separation anxiety issues. Her anxiety is severe during thunderstorms or anything that makes loud booms, like fireworks, and she absolutely must be drugged/sedated during these times because she WILL injure herself in a blind panic, even if she's crated. She is missing a few teeth from trying to get through her metal crate gate during storms. She is otherwise sufficiently crate trained and will not protest being crated. But storms, fireworks, etc will set off a phobic panic in her and she will run off or tear up areas of an area of confinement if not sedated. Kifli is a savant level escape artist. Her intelligence level is the highest I've ever seen in a dog; a whole other level of smart. She is an observer, a problem solver with the memory of an elephant. In the six years we've had her, we've been unable to keep her confined to our backyard. We've done everything from chain link fencing, electric fencing, wireless fencing, and reinforcing the ground under the fencing. She may stay confined for a while, but she observes, tests different areas for weaknesses, constantly modifying her escape tactics. She is an excellent jumper, climber, she will dig, chew, and she has this unnatural ability to squeeze through small spaces like she's part octopus. She's learned how to unlock some basic latches on gates and doors. She has escaped her metal barred crate by somehow unlatching two locks on the outside of the gate while locked inside-we have to padlock the gate to keep her in it while we're at work during the day. Electric and wireless fencing is a joke to her. She knows she will get shocked for a second if she runs through the boundary but then she's out free to wander where she will. She has never wandered far from our home; getting out and having freedom from the yard seems to be a game and she isn't interested in being separated from her family. She stays an approximate quarter mile radius around our home. We keep an AirTag on her collar at all times and she's microchipped. We make every effort otherwise to not allow her outside unsupervised. Kifli is a highly dominant personality and will be aggressive and fight with other dogs, no matter the size, if she feels they challenge her. She does fine with other dogs as long as they know she boss and calls the shots. It is very highly recommended that she is adopted as an only dog for this reason. Even if another dog is in the home and is submissive, Kifli has an extremely jealous. If she feels like her attention and affection is diverted or shared with another dog, she may start a fight. However, she seems fine around other dogs when she's leashed in public; she understands she is with her person and the other dogs are with their people. What's theirs is theirs and what's hers is hers. Alternately, Kifli recognizes puppies and is very gentle and maternal with them. She has had five litters of her own and was always a very nurturing, attentive, and loving mama. She absolutely adores young children. She has been around my youngest child (now age 3) since day one and has always been loving, gentle, careful, and affectionate with her. She's never growled, side-eyed, shown teeth, or played too rough with her. Kifli is always excited to see and interact with young children. Kifli would do wonderfully in a home as an only dog with a single person, a couple, or a family where someone can be with her at ALL times. She is well trained with basic commands. She will need CONSTANT supervision if she's outside unleashed until she knows her new home and boundaries. She will also need a person who can override her dominant personality, because she WILL establish that she is the boss and things will go her way if unchallenged. She has a spiteful attitude when she doesn't get her way and she occasionally attempts revenge behavior like marking, but consistent and firm but gentle dominance establishment of you over her eventually sees her contently compliant. She is a sweetheart and a good girl. We wish she didn't have to leave us.
