About Maple

Maple is a smart, affectionate, and adventurous young dog with a big personality. She's highly intelligent and learns quickly, though she can be a bit stubborn at times. Maple loves being active and is always excited for fetch, long sniffy walks, tug, or her favorite game-soccer (even if she occasionally plays by her own rules). She has a high energy level and would thrive with an active owner who can provide regular exercise and mental stimulation, balanced with a calm and structured home. A fenced yard is a must, as Maple loves outdoor time. Maple enjoys playing with other dogs during playdates, but she can be overly enthusiastic, so she may do best as the only dog in the home or with a very tolerant canine companion. She would do best in a home without cats, as she likes to chase them in play, and without young children. Busy or noisy environments can be overstimulating for her. She is trained on basic commands (sit, down, break, out, place, and crate) and is continuing to work on 'stay.' Maple is crate-trained and comfortable being crated overnight or when left alone. She walks well on leash and has reliable recall using an e-collar. Maple can have some difficulty settling when the house is busy and has mild generalized anxiety, especially with loud noises. She is currently trialing medication to help with this, which is not necessarily permanent and would be managed with a veterinarian. She has recently shown discomfort around toddlers, which is a key reason we are seeking a better-suited home where she can feel relaxed and successful. She has shown mild resource guarding with food and high-value treats, which has been easily managed by feeding separately. Maple may have sensitivities to gluten and chicken and is doing well on a gluten-free, chicken-free diet. Maple is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and wellness care, and microchipped. She is a very sweet, curious, and loving dog who simply needs the right home to feel secure and thrive.
