German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult

With very heavy hearts, we are asking for help finding the right home for a very special boy. This sweet dog was originally rescued by a neighbor from a shelter. Unfortunately, he kept playing with their poultry and, without meaning to, harming them. It was never aggression, just playful behavior that happened too often for them to safely keep him. A family member stepped in because she couldn't bear the thought of him going back to a shelter. When he was placed with our family member, we were told that if it ever wasn't the right fit, they would take him back. Unfortunately, that is no longer an option, which leaves us in the difficult position of having to rehome him ourselves. This is not a decision we take lightly. He is a genuine sweetheart. Affectionate, gentle, and happiest when he's getting belly rubs and being near his people. He loves being part of a family environment, but he clearly longs to be outdoors. He seems like a puppy in a four-year-old body... playful, bouncy, and full of energy. Our family member has been doing her absolute best, but she does not have a fenced yard and also has a two-year-old. Managing a high-energy dog and a toddler without secure outdoor space has proven to be more than she can safely handle. He is good around children, though he does not like children laying on him and prefers having his own space. He is not mean, he just requires respectful boundaries. He is improving on a leash but will still pull when excited. With consistent training and someone who has the time to invest in him, he would truly thrive. He would do especially well in a home with: %BD%BD%BD'%BD A fenced yard or acreage %BD%BD%BD'%BD An active household %BD%BD%BD'%BD Someone experienced with energetic dogs %BD%BD%BD'%BD Outdoor access with the ability to come inside and be part of the family We know it can be easy to judge when someone has to rehome a pet. We've done it ourselves before. Now we find ourselves in that very position, choosing what is best for him rather than what feels easiest. Returning him to a shelter is not something we are willing to do. He would not do well confined after having access to a full home at the very minimum. He paces and itches to be outside.
