About Orca

Adoption Fee: $350
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Orca is a strikingly beautiful working-line German Shepherd, approximately 4-5 years old and about 75 lbs. She has a strong, athletic build and a calm, alert presence. She is exceptionally intelligent, capable, good in basic obedience, and genuinely loves to work. I rescued her over a year ago and have done extensive training with her. She is a devoted, deeply bonded companion. Orca rarely barks, but she is naturally protective. She watches over the house and reliably positions herself at the front door when her person is sleeping. She is fine with visitors. She was raised with young children gets very excited when greeting them, which can be overwhelming for little ones. Orca thrives with daily mental stimulation, training, and purposeful activity. A fenced yard is ideal, though she can also do well with consistent daily walks. Training & skills include: Basic obedience (sit, down, stay, recall, look, release, etc). She responds well to verbal cues and hand signals. Calm in stores and public places when other dogs are not nearby Rides well in the car; comfortable with handling and grooming Learns quickly; motivated by both food and praise. She is still working on waiting at open doors, particularly when separated from the person she is bonded to-she strongly prefers to be by their side. Important (please read): I initially began training Orca as a service dog, and she has learned a great deal through that process. However, she does not do well with other dogs or cats, and becomes reactive on leash when close to other dogs (whining and pulling). Because of this, she does not meet the strict requirement that a service dog must meet-to remain reliably calm in crowded environments such as restaurants or airplanes, which is incompatible with my need to regularly navigate crowded spaces. This is the only reason I am seeking a new home for her. She'd be a good fit for you if you are an experienced dog owner, you have no other dogs or cats, you want a close, affectionate bond, enjoy training and working with your dog and are comfortable with a protective, working-drive dog. Orca is spayed, microchipped, fully up to date on vaccines, and has no known medical issues. If you think Orca may be a good fit for you, please reach out and tell me a bit about yourself, your experience with dogs, and how you see Orca fitting into your daily life. I may ask to see the home prior to adoption to ensure it's a good match. Rehoming fee to help ensure a responsible placement.
