About CHARLIE

Adoption Fee: $400
Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

CHARLIE is a 6-year-old, 4.5 pound Chihuahua who was owner surrendered to find a home where he can live as a pet for the first time. Because he was not properly socialized, he arrived terrified and unsure of the world around him. It took about two weeks for him to decide that his foster mom was his safe person, and another week before he found the confidence to follow her everywhere. Once that bond formed, he truly began shine. CHARLIE has great potential to be a little lap dog. While he usually curls up in a dog bed in the same room as his foster mom, he has occasionally chosen her lap and we expect that will be his preference as he gets more confident. For now he enjoys being close to his person. When his foster mom is busy, he can often be found hanging out in an open kennel, contently watching her clean the house. When picked up, he sweetly presses his little face up against hers. CHARLIE is a happy, tail-waggy boy who has recently discovered the joy of playing with small stuffies. He does wonderfully with other dogs and will be best in a home with another small dog to help show him the ropes and give him confidence. He is good with his foster siblings ranging from his size up to about 40 pounds, though he can get a little nervous around the largest one, mostly because she is older and doesn't always pay attention. He has not been around cats and will not be good in a home with young children. CHARLIE is about 99% housebroken and does very well when kept on a consistent schedule. Like many rescue dogs, he may have a few accidents during the first day or two while adjusting to a new home. He enjoys exploring the backyard but stays close to his foster mom. For his safety and security, a secure, fenced yard is a must. At night, CHARLIE sleeps in a three-sided bassinet set up next to the big bed. He would also do fine sleeping in a dog bed in the bedroom and would likely adjust to sleeping in the bed with his person once he feels safe and settled. CHARLIE is neutered, up to date on shots, has had a dental, is heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
