We are searching for a very special kind of person , a rare unicorn someone who will give Mayor the chance to finally show who he truly is: a gentle, affectionate love bug who just needs the right environment and a patient, compassionate heart. Mayor is a 4-year-old bulldog mix, about 48 pounds, with a big blocky head, the softest soul, and a face that makes everyone smile. Once he knows you, he becomes deeply attached and loyal to his person. One of his favorite things in the world is climbing into a lap, resting his heavy head there, and just being close. He craves connection, comfort, and belonging. Mayor absolutely loves balls especially the biggest ones he can find. He enjoys fetch, pays attention to his handler, comes when called, and understands his cues. He's smart, eager, and truly wants to do well. You can see how hard he tries. Mayor does best while taking his daily Prozac, and it's important that his future foster or adopter is comfortable continuing this medication. It helps him feel calm, balanced, and safe in his body and mind. Sadly, Mayor hasn't had an easy journey. He struggled in the shelter environment, and since then he's been stuck in boarding waiting, watching, hoping. Through all of this, we've learned what he truly needs: a calm, quiet home, with someone who understands bulldogs and is willing to go slow with him. Mayor needs to be the only pet. He may do best in a one-person home where he can form a deep bond and finally feel secure. We know this is a long shot. We know it's not easy to find someone experienced, patient, and open-hearted enough to take in a smush-faced, special-needs dog that the world has overlooked. But we also know this: Mayor's person is out there. And when they find each other, it's going to be something really special. Mayor has the sweetest, most expressive smile and so much love to give. He's just waiting for someone to give him time to decompress, to feel safe, and to become the loyal, steady companion he is meant to be. Please, this sweet boy only needs a chance .
