About Max

American Staffordshire Terrier / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

I'm reaching out to your Australian Cattle Dog rescue with urgency, hoping you may be able to help me find an emergency foster or adopter for my dog, Max. Max is about 3 years old, weighs 36 pounds, and is a mix of American Pit Bull Terrier and Australian Cattle Dog. The ACD traits are very evident, he's intelligent, intense, loyal, and deeply bonded to his person. I've attached photos and videos, and he truly is even cuter in real life. Max has formed a very strong attachment to me and is highly sensitive to his environment. Recently, when raised voices are directed toward me in the home, Max becomes very distressed and reactively protective. While this behavior appears fear- and stress-based and is situational, it has become clear that his behavioral needs are beyond what I can safely manage in my home. Because of this, I need to find him a more appropriate placement quickly, before things escalate further. Outside of this trigger, Max is a sweet, goofy, joyful dog. He comes immediately when I whistle, loves off-leash time in a secure yard, and gets so excited on hikes that he almost hops along. He's playful and mischievous - hiding treats, carrying toys around, and racing from sofa to sofa during play. I've had Max for nearly five months. When I adopted him, he was on several medications (gabapentin, fluoxetine, and trazodone) used by the shelter for stress. With veterinary guidance, we've carefully weaned him, and his true personality has emerged - affectionate, silly, funny, and deeply bonded. He does best with consistency, predictability, and a calm, single-handler environment. I love Max very much, but my household dynamics and my own health limitations mean I can't provide the calm, one-person setting he needs to feel safe and confident. I want to act now, while he is still emotionally stable. I believe Max would thrive with an experienced, dog-savvy person who understands herding-breed sensitivity and can provide structure, patience, and daily engagement. I can transport Max anywhere to reach the right foster, adopter, or rescue. I also have all of his records available, including vaccination history, veterinary records, and DNA results. I'm happy to help in any way needed to make this transition successful. Please feel free to reach out with any questions at 913-269-6316. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. With gratitude, Tracey
