BONDED PAIR: Chula: 26-01-26-00274 Buttercup: 26-01-26-00291 After 120 days of dodging traffic, braving the elements, and surviving on nothing but instinct and each other, their marathon is finally over. For four long months, Chula and her bonded (possible daughter) sister have been ghosts in our city-seen, but unreachable. Chula fought hard to protect her friend and be her guide - she has the battle scars to prove it! Their bond is a miracle of survival. Back in October, they were briefly separated when one was caught. But the call of her companion was too strong; she bolted back into the unknown, and against all odds, they found each other again. Since then, they have been inseparable, wandering from Willow Glen across the city, exhausted and lean, but always together. One carries the physical toll of recently having puppies (though she is believed to be spayed now, not confirmed); the other bore a limp from their life on the streets. Today, they are finally safe. They wandered into an open garage and are now warm, fed, and resting for the first time in months. But their story is far from over. While both are microchipped, the silence from the unregistered owners is deafening. They have survived on their own and now relearning what it is to simply be a dog again. We don't know if they were lost or simply left behind. What we do know is that the local shelter is at capacity, and taking them there likely means they will be separated and placed behind bars-a heartbreaking end for two dogs who fought so hard to stay together. Now it's our turn to fight for them. They have spent four months running. Now, they just need a place to stay. We are looking for a hero-someone willing to open their heart and home to these two girls, ideally together. They are sweet, playful, very lovable, and soul-tired. They have survived the streets; now they deserve a sofa. Chula's specific temperament is amazing - especially considering her life on the streets! She is sweet and tender-hearted. She loves to play fetch and is ready to play at a moment's notice. She bears scars of a loyal protector and seems to be more herself around women then men, though she remains submissive and respectful around both. She loves children and has not shown any signs of aggression at all during their healing. She has gained her energy back and no longer panics when she thinks she's alone. She watches over her companion and makes sure she stays in line, like a mother would. She loves treats and bones. She does tend to eat anything, but if you redirect her to a bone instead, she listens. She gets very happy and excited to see people she recognizes and tends to need a day or two to warm up to anyone to show her personality. She loves cuddles and will curl up on a couch with a blanket to sleep all night. She is potty trained and knows 'no' very well. Her microchip is registered to the person who is in charge of 'spaying' dogs, but she cannot confirm this one was spayed or not. It is very likely however. She might have some lab and German shepherd in her as well. She has a few small injuries (scrapes and tears), but is healing up - definitely a strong spirit and body. She is already an amazing companion for any family. Please consider saving her companion with her! PS -- Chula is the name registered on her microchip, but she does not respond well to it. She would be a great candidate to be renamed whatever your family chooses! (Including her friend nicknamed 'Buttercup!')
