About Ridge

Rottweiler mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Ridge is a handsome Rottweiler with a tender heart who is learning, day by day, that the world isn't such a scary place. When he first arrived, Ridge was very timid and unsure. He needed lots of time and space to feel safe. Since then, he has made remarkable progress, and everyone who works with him has seen just how much potential this boy has. Though he backs away from the leash, a little patience goes a long way with him. Once the leash is on Ridge walks beautifully, follows well where you lead, and doesn't tug on it at all. He's shy, but he enjoys gentle pets. He's not quite confident enough to lean into you or wag his tail, but he will nudge your hand to ask you for more when you stop. Every now and then he'll show flashes of a silly, affectionate dog who's starting to come out of his shell. When he's feeling brave he'll take treats nicely from your hand, but more often than not he prefers for you to leave them in his kennel for him to eat later. Ridge has also done well meeting other dogs in shelter playgroups. As a nervous boy, Ridge can easily be overwhelmed. He does best in a calm, gentle environment. Confidence takes time to build, and he appreciates patience. Slow and steady wins the race after all! The progress he's already made tells us that with consistency, kindness, and a quiet home, Ridge will continue to blossom. Underneath his nerves is a very sweet, intelligent dog who wants to trust and connect - he just needs the right person to help him get there. If you're someone who believes in going at a dog's pace and celebrating small wins that turn into big breakthroughs, Ridge could be an incredibly rewarding companion.
