Courtesy Posting: CODE RED/EUTH LISTED- 1/23 DEADLINE at 3 pm!!! LAS VEGAS, NV - ID #A1405990 'BEAR' AT THE ANIMAL FOUNDATION SHELTER KNOWN TO EUTHANIZE MANY CHOWS. BEYOND URGENT MIDDLE AGED/OLDER BLUE/BLACK CHOW BOY (6 yr, 48 lbs) WHO IS SHY AND WAS GENTLE AROUND FINDER, SEE VIDEOS. MADE RESCUE ONLY FOR BEING SCARED. 'BEAR' IS IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF A FINDING A SAVVY FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP- do not contact the shelter unless you are a rescue group, PLEASE CONTACT ROBIN MORGAN IF YOU CAN HELP: [email protected] Rescues need a foster and local help to save Please help us find a savvy foster (or foster to adopt) and rescue for this dear neglected boy who seems to have been dumped near North Las Vegas. He was seen laying on a sidewalk and hanging out near a specific home and area where he would return. Someone who saw him brought him some water and treats to earn his trust, and provided us many videos showing a shy dog. The finder contacted us and said, 'I know he is a great dog deep down he just needs love and time'. Animal control showed up, and rather let the lady/finder continue to work to gain his trust, they claimed he was dangerous and that someone reported he was chasing children (which we doubt, given his shy demeanor). So, instead, they chased him and used a catch pole to catch him, scaring him even further. Now at the Animal Foundation who euthanizes many chows and never makes many available even to rescues, they have decided to give this boy a chance at being rescued, but placed him on a very short deadline of 1/23 at 3 pm. We are therefore in urgent need of finding a savvy foster too. He cannot be adopted directly from the shelter, he requires a rescue partner to pull him out to save his life. Again, rescues need a place for a dog to go to save him and thus we need a foster and local help. They have named him Bear and estimated he is 6 years old. He is only 48 lbs and has thinning fur, likely from fleas and lack of proper nutrition and care. The shelter listing states, 'Bear is not adapting well to the shelter environment and exhibiting signs of fear and kennel distress. Bear was found running the streets chasing after children. He was a no handle on intake here at the shelter when he was brought in. In the kennel, he is avoiding and growling. Staff has been able to take out and he is nervous and slightly avoiding on the leash. With slow approaches, he tolerates handling, but prefers to be left alone. He is an older boy who just needs time to adjust to new environments. This animal would benefit from a quieter place to adjust and become more comfortable with social and environmental changes. Due to the severity of these behaviors, this animal is transfer only. This animal needs placement by 1/23 at 3 PM' As even the shelter can handle him a little already, and notes he 'just needs time', we will feel this boy will warm up significantly once he feels safe as many chows do. But, we unfortunately have such little time to find a foster and rescue. The deadline is 1/23 at 3 pm and we have requested an extension, but it is not likely any will be given. If you may be able to foster, even temporarily, or help in some other way (transport, pledge towards his rescue and medical), please contact Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network ASAP at [email protected] who is trying to find immediate placement for him. Time is of the essence. If you are a rescue group interested in rescuing, please contact the shelter's Rescue/Transfer department at [email protected] asap and note his ID and your intentions on the subject line, but also contact us.
