About Penny

Penny is a sweet 9-year-old female German Shorthaired Pointer who thrives both indoors and out. She's mellowed beautifully with age-she can lounge contentedly for hours inside or burst with energy for outdoor play. At her age, she's perfectly fine staying home alone (she'll nap peacefully), but she much prefers being close to her people and is very affectionate once she knows you. It takes her about 30 minutes to warm up to new people, after which she's friendly and loving. She's alert and will bark to announce strangers approaching the home, making her a good watchdog. At dog parks, Penny enjoys her independence-she mostly runs from tree to tree pointing at birds or squirrels and tends to ignore other dogs. She warms up to them over time but generally prefers focusing on her human companions. She's an absolute blast playing frisbee! Penny can be sensitive to loud noises like fireworks or gunshots. When startled or scared, she seeks a safe, quiet spot to hide and becomes protective/guarding-she has reacted defensively (a quick nip without injury) if someone tries to move or disturb her in that state. We always give her space during those rare moments, and it's easily avoidable with awareness. Because of this, we avoid situations where she might feel overwhelmed, and we don't expose her to young children (though she's been perfectly fine around them in calm settings in the past, including toddlers as young as 1). She's a wonderful, loving companion who would thrive in a home with understanding owners who can provide a calm environment, plenty of affection, and outdoor activities she loves. We're rehoming her due to our new grandchild and wanting to ensure she isn't confined or stressed-we'd love for her to find a forever home where she can relax and be part of the family without restrictions.
