[Read About Natural Seizure Care] **SPECIAL NEEDS DOG** GOLDIE is a beautiful 3-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua/Yorkie mix who is looking for a very special home with someone who has experience with special-needs dogs. Her adopter must fully understand that she is a SPECIAL NEEDS dog who will always require extra care, patience, and health management. In return, she gives unwavering loyalty, quiet companionship, and a deep, heartfelt bond. When GOLDIE first came into rescue, she was so scared. We were told that she had spent much of her time hiding under a bed in her prior home, and it showed. She was fearful, untrusting, and not in the best of shape, with flea damage, bite wounds, and an unsteady gait. Within weeks of intake, GOLDIE experienced multiple Grand Mal seizures. The lady who surrendered her had not noticed any seizures but based on Goldie's condition we believe she had likely been suffering from them for some time. Since starting seizure medication in December 2025, she has had no further seizure activity, and her skin has healed beautifully as her coat continues to grow back. She requires seizure medication twice daily, morning and evening. With people, GOLDIE is cautious at first. She needs time, patience, and consistency to feel safe. Once she bonds, she becomes a velcro dog. She loves sleeping in the big bed, cuddling on the couch, following her person everywhere, and soaking up affection. Huge milestones have been reached in foster care: she now allows brushing, petting of her head, legs, and ears, accepts belly rubs, and has even begun gently playing with her foster mom's hand. She is incredibly quiet and likes to stay close by. Her foster mom affectionately refers to her as a little ninja. Because she tends to stick very close to her person, she can be a trip hazard, so a home with someone steady on their feet is important. GOLDIE does well with other calm, small dogs. She is fine being left home briefly (up to about two hours in foster care) as long as she has a calm doggy companion to snuggle with. She is nervous around larger dogs and should not go to a home with children. We do not know how she would be with cats. She does not play with toys and prefers companionship over activity. GOLDIE's house training is a work in progress and may never be perfect due to her neurological condition. She should have a fenced yard for safety. She rides very well in the car and prefers sitting on your lap. She has a good appetite and will need her food monitored, as she can gain weight easily. She is currently at a healthy weight and her Foster family will share her diet with her adopter. GOLDIE is current on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. For transparency: Goldie's phenobarbital dosage is 16.2 mg. A 30-tablet prescription costs approximately $5.62 through GoodRx at Walgreens and lasts about two months, as the tablets are quartered. If you have experience with special-needs pups, have fully read and understand GOLDIE's needs, and believe you can provide the calm, loving home she deserves, please apply. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
