About OBE

Adoption Fee: $350
Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

OBE is a six-year-old, 13.6 pound Chihuahua who came into rescue when his owner was facing homelessness and could no longer care for him and his brother. His brother has since been adopted, but OBE's journey has taken a little more time. He needs an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let him move at his own pace. With the right person, he will learn that he is safe and loved. With people, OBE was initially very fearful. When he first entered rescue, he struggled to adjust to a new environment and would lunge or try to bite out of fear. When someone reached for him, he would flatten himself to the floor and roll slightly onto his side, as if bracing himself to be picked up. Because of this fear, it took months before he would allow his foster to pick him up at all. Over time, with patience and consistency, OBE has made real progress. He now gives kisses, enjoys rolling around with his foster, and is clearly learning that people can be kind and safe. He is a happy little boy who is still building confidence and trust. OBE is doing better with the other dogs in his foster home. He previously lived with his brother, and together they tended to 'pack up' on other dogs, but since his brother was adopted, OBE has improved. He would likely be fine as an only dog or with a calm female close to his size. He should not go to a home with children of any age and we do not know how he would be with cats. OBE is still a work in progress with house training but has made noticeable improvement. He does use the dog door in his foster home and continues to get better with routine and consistency. Due to his fearfulness, he will need a securely fenced yard to keep him safe. At night, OBE has come a long way. For months, he was too scared to even enter the bedroom and would not sleep in the bed. Now, he happily comes into the bedroom and sleeps in the big bed, where he is a very good boy. OBE is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, a dental, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
