Duke is a lovable snuggle enthusiast who believes all blankets and cozy spots are best shared, with him. He's an alert, expressive companion who enjoys keeping an eye on his surroundings, from the people in his home to the squirrels exploring the yard. Duke's affectionate nature and big personality make him a charming and devoted companion. Duke has a medium-to-high energy level who enjoys staying active and engaged. Duke needs at least one daily walk along with plenty of mental stimulation throughout the day. His favorite enrichment activities include long hikes, lick mats, puzzle toys, and frozen Kongs-especially on hot days. When it's time to relax, Duke can be found baking in the sunshine (don't forget the sunscreen!) or happily curled up under a blanket until dinner time. Duke would thrive in an active home where he is the only pet. He needs an experienced owner with knowledge of how to train and redirect a reactive dog. Duke can be around teens and older children able to participate in his continued training. He is best fitted for a home with a fenced yard. Duke would do best in an active, pet-free home with an experienced adopter who understands how to support and redirect a reactive dog. He can do well with teens and older children who are able to participate in his ongoing training. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for Duke to safely enjoy exercise and outdoor time. Duke is house-trained and knows his basic commands. He has strong recall skills at a distance when he's able to be redirected from distractions. On walks, Duke benefits from a confident handler, as he can be reactive to dogs and people; however, he responds well to redirection using high-value treats. Duke also experiences separation anxiety and will thrive in a home committed to continued training, structure, and reassurance. Duke is fully up to date on his vaccinations and is on a regular flea and heartworm prevention routine. He is neutered and microchipped. For particularly high-stress situations, Duke may benefit from occasional, veterinarian-prescribed medication to help him stay calm.
