About Minnie

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 3-year-old female Chihuahua, about 7 pounds. Minnie is the sweetest little thing! I love her curiosity; she is a confident girl! She has shown a love of adventures, going for walks, laying in the sun or is happy snoozing cuddled up next to you on the couch or in bed. She has adapted to our routine quickly and seems to match our energy levels day to day. She just wants to be involved in whatever you're doing and is happy to be there, whatever it is! She has a versatile personality. She sleeps quietly in her crate and we're working on refining her crate training at all hours of the day. There is minimal whining at bedtime, she settles down quickly with improvement every day, most nights no whining at all. Consistency and routine have been key. Overall, she's comfortable with her crate. Minimal separation anxiety noted and is fine left home alone, crated. She is food motivated! We're working on basic commands. She doesn't know any cues. She is warming up to grooming (nail trims and tooth brushing). It may take some time for her to become comfortable with this; she doesn't like her feet being touched for long. Update: She let me trim all her nails while in the sink! She seems to be much more comfortable and has a higher tolerance for grooming activities in a sink/tub/shower. I was approaching her from the ground/dog bed thinking getting on her level would be helpful but turns out, sink is the way to go! �ٴ� She is wary of strangers, but once she trusts you, she LOVES belly rubs and sitting in your lap demanding all the attention. Her favorite spot is anywhere you are. Her beady little eyes will win you over, guaranteed. Gentle handling and respecting her boundaries are important until she trusts you. She gets chilly, so wearing sweaters on extra cold or wet days helps her stay warm. Unsure how she is with young children; I think she's best suited for kids 10 and up who understand her boundaries. Wild erratic behavior would be too much for her. Very little interest in toys at the moment. She's keener on going for a sniffy walk and enjoying the fresh air outside. She is more of an explorer vs an energetic playmate, but this may change as she settles in with us. She had a few accidents the first 24hrs, but after being on a schedule we haven't had an accident since. She is realizing she can ask to go out by standing near the back door. Can be hesitant to go outside when it's really cold or rainy, but with encouragement and on a leash she goes fine. So far, she is okay with my cat, although she is curious and may possibly chase if prey drive kicks in. She will go right up into the cat's face to check them out, brave! She travels well crated in the car. Being contained is best for her safety at this time. Tethered to a seatbelt is something to work on, she tangles herself up easily and moves around a lot. She will need a secure environment with a solid fenced yard and leashed walks only for now, as she has no recall. She's not a bolter- but if she gets out, I'm not sure she would come back. Overall, she is good on leash but not refined and pulls at times of excitement. She has mild reactivity towards some people and dogs on leash. We're focusing on engagement, recognizing her name and yielding to leash pressure. Her pulling has improved significantly in such a short period, I believe she will be able to loose- leash walk with ease given a little time and consistency. I can walk both my dog and her simultaneously. She is proving to be highly trainable. She did excellent on a 16ft long-line at the beach for more freedom to sniff and explore. If she catches a scent of something good, she enjoys sniffing around the area for a few minutes. Minnie is relatively quiet. She doesn't bark excessively. She has a raspy bark like a smoker, which is much quieter compared to my current dog. No destructive tendencies noted thus far. She hasn't shown any pickiness about what she eats and is always excited for mealtime! She will perform her best spin trick for you, it's adorable. We live in an area where fireworks go off randomly around holidays or Seahawks games, but I haven't noticed any sound sensitivity. She seems unbothered. Minnie has met my friend's neutrally behaving dogs (a large old shepherd and a small chi mix) and hasn't shown any signs of timidness, reactivity or aggression; she's curious but neutral around them. I think she would do fine in a multi-dog household with calm large dogs, other small dogs, or as a single dog.
