About Delos

Delos is a sweet senior dog, 10 years old, very loyal and affectionate. And full disclosure: he can be challenging. Only experienced dog people should consider adopting him. With a loud bark, he is also a good guard dog; his genetic profile explains why. He weighs 75-80 pounds and loves food, especially cheese. Sniffing everything on the path is his favorite activity on walks. Delos has lived successfully with female dogs his size (50-80 lbs) from 2016 to 2023 and a much smaller female in 2025, and loved that. He played tug of rope with the larger ones and happily hung out with them, gnawing on bones together. If they got up and went outside, he would follow; same when they came inside. He loves being part of a pack. It makes life more interesting for an intelligent dog like him. Delos is often reactive to other dogs; he has some fear-based aggression. He can be challenging to walk when unfamiliar dogs are around and needs your full attention. He can also get reactive riding in the car when he sees dogs outside; it's a version of leash aggression. We have worked with an animal behaviorist and have developed ways to address his reactivity, which we would share with whomever adopts him. Delos was born in late 2015. He was adopted from a rescue organization in October 2016. That organization closed down when the founder died during the pandemic, which is why we cannot return him to the rescue. He needs to be rehomed because his family is moving and can only bring their 15-year-old cat. His family is sad and wants a good home for him. Delos has mild kidney disease; he eats prescription dry food and regular wet food. He is a few pounds overweight right now. All pertinent medical records will be shared. He has had regular vet visits since 2016. Like many humans, Delos gets anxious and has been more relaxed since he went on daily doses of Prozac in 2024. He was probably abused as a puppy; he flinches whenever someone goes to pet him on the top of his head. He loves belly rubs! And he gives lots of doggy kisses when he bonds with you.
