About Montie

Adoption Fee: 50
Lab / Australian Shepherd
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Montie is a 10-year-old chocolate Lab mix, about 60-65 lbs, with a big heart and a deep love for people. He is affectionate, loyal, and very much a velcro dog who wants to be close to his person. He thrives on human attention and has never shown aggression toward people. Montie came to us due to family circumstances, and while we have done everything we can for him, our home is not the right long-term fit. We live in a small apartment with multiple dogs, and Montie would do best in a calmer environment. Montie generally does well with female dogs but can struggle with male dogs, especially in close living quarters. There have been a few incidents with our male dog over several months, likely related to stress, jealousy for attention, and limited space. For this reason, we are seeking a home where Montie can be the only dog or live with a calm female dog. He is house trained, strong for his age, and still has good energy. On leash, he can get excited and pull a bit, but he does not lunge or react aggressively. He has not been crate trained. He does fine when left alone with another dog and may have some mild anxiety if left completely alone. Montie does have some medical needs. He needs dental work and evaluation of a small mass near his eye. He also has a mild, ongoing cough that the vet believes may be related to a tracheal issue rather than a lung problem. He is not currently on medication other than joint supplements. We are willing to help with veterinary costs for the right rescue or adopter. Montie would do best in: A single-dog home or a home with a calm female dog A quiet, stable environment A dog-savvy adopter who understands senior dogs A home where he can receive consistent attention and structure This is an incredibly difficult decision, but we want to do what is safest and kindest for everyone involved. Montie deserves a peaceful place to settle into his senior years, where he can relax, feel secure, and be loved. Located in Valley Glen, Los Angeles.
