About Masha

Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

16 month Masha in need of permanent home! It's heartbreaking to begin this process. But Masha needs more from an owner/family than we are able to provide for him. It is after a lot of thought and consideration that we begin this process. Masha's family is currently undergoing a tumultuous period of time/series of transitions. I was his primary caretaker, but I currently attend school in Bellingham, WA, and for the past few months he has been staying at my mother's in Olympia, WA. I was able to manage him up until this point, but my current living situation and schedule in Bellingham is not healthy for him, and my family will not be able to care for him much longer. He definitely needs a family/individual who is more engaged and present, and which is more stable. Currently he spends most of his days alone at my mom's, as she works full-time, and in both housing situations he has begun to display some loneliness/stress-induced behavior. She previously agreed to have him at her property temporarily in Olympia, but is not going to permit him to live with her much longer. There are a bunch of other moving parts which don't support him (but that are not because of Masha), so within the next couple months we're trying to get him re-housed. I would love to find a home for him with a large yard and dedicated owner/family members! Masha is a really wonderful boy. Some basic facts and characteristics: German/Belgian Shepherd mix. Born in August 2024, weighs close to 90 lbs. Very friendly, playful demeanor. Always up for frisbee/a walk, but also loves down time. Loves to follow you around the house, definitely a malinois shadow-dog, but is also good on his own for medium periods of time. He is neutered and up to date on shots. Crate and house-trained. He's very toy-driven. Loves running to catch frisbees and playing soccer. Also enjoys bike rides. I've taken him on rides up to 10 miles happily. Masha's never displayed protectiveness really, only a couple barks over a frisbee at the park every once in a while. Medium prey drive, birds and squirrels are distractions but he can check back in when on the leash. He does really well with other dogs at parks off-leash but needs some attention when passing other dogs on-leash. He enjoys roughhousing and parks but has never gotten aggressive. He pretty much has the same reaction w/female dogs as he does with males and has never displayed any kind of hormone drive. He'd be great with another dog in the household to roughhouse with, and is good with cats too. Sometimes just needs a verbal reminder to leave cats alone ( also snuggles w them sometimes). Strong on several basic commands. Would love someone who can dedicate some time to intentional training. He has not been around kids very often but is typically uninterested. Just hasn't been conditioned specifically with them.
