About Kenta

This is Kenta. He is a 7 (almost 8) year old German Shepherd / Bull Terrier mix, and I have had him for almost 5 years. Kenta is an incredibly sweet, affectionate dog who loves people and being close to his person. He is very cuddly, talkative, and happiest spending time with someone he trusts. He enjoys playing tug and fetch and benefits from having a job or structured outlet. Kenta is dog reactive and mildly human reactive on leash only. Because of this, he needs a confident, experienced handler who understands reactive dogs, will maintain consistent boundaries, and can provide proper outlets and structure. He has had ongoing training over the past several years, including recent work with an excellent professional trainer (trainer information can be provided). Kenta is e-collar trained and knows commands such as place, sit, heel, and down, though refreshers are always beneficial. Medical: Kenta tore both ACLs approximately 2.5 years ago and was not a candidate for surgery. His arthritis is managed with medication, and most days he shows no signs of pain or mobility issues. Home requirements: �'ۢ Cannot live with other dogs �'ۢ Has lived with a cat before; initially chased but was able to coexist with impulse control training �'ۢ Similar considerations apply with children; structure and supervision are important �'ۢ Would do best in a house with a yard; apartments are not recommended This is a very difficult decision, and one made with Kenta's best interests in mind. I love him deeply, but with his reactivity, my full-time work schedule, and returning to school, I am no longer the best match for the level of management and consistency he needs. There is a $300 rehoming fee to help ensure he goes to a responsible, committed home. I will require a meet-and-greet and will be carefully vetting potential adopters to ensure Kenta is placed in good hands.
