*LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY - Within a one hour drive to Pensacola, FL* ROXANNE is a beautiful 3.5 year-old, 7.7 lb Pomeranian surrendered by her owner. She is a sweet girl with noise sensitivity and is afraid of certain sounds, the unknown and strangers. Her instinct when she is frightened is to get far away from whatever is scaring her, even if she is with someone she trusts. As ROXANNE gets more comfortable in her environment, her inquisitive nature and fun personality emerge. And once she knows you, she's all yours! She loves head scratches and belly rubs and running around the yard full speed, sniffing every corner. When you leave the house she'll nap or join her foster siblings to bark at people passing by until her favorite human returns. However, until she trusts you she will be scared and hesitant to let you approach her. She needs a patient, loving person to let her adjust at her own pace in a calm environment. She needs time to trust and the transition will be slow. ROXANNE gets along well with other small dogs and loves to nap next to them and zoom around the yard with them. She needs a home with another friendly dog close to her size and age to give her confidence. She shares her foster home with a cat who sometimes gets barked at, but she's not aggressive with him. She does not do well with loud noises or fast movements and will not be good in a home with kids. ROXANNE's potty training skills are much better when she has someone who can be home with her and another little dog to follow outside. She does sometimes have accidents but responds very well to treats and positive reinforcement. She will wear a harness and a collar but is afraid of a leash and her foster family is working with her on that. A home with a fully fenced SECURE yard is a non-negotiable. She's quick and clever when it comes to rushing through doors and gates. For her safety, until you know her she should always be in a carrier in a car and when going in and out of secured areas. She should not go to a home with a pool. When she is afraid she does not recognize the danger and will go right in. At bedtime, ROXANNE will sleep in the bedroom on a dog bed or on the bed with her foster family. She lies next to her foster mom and sits on a lap for brushing and pets. Her foster mom holds her like a baby for belly rubs and she loves it, often falling asleep in her arms. ROXANNE has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, had a dental, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is heartworm positive and has started her treatment which will be continued by the rescue until she is heartworm free. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
