A Prayer for Bear This post is going out with a prayer that Bear's angel is out there, and takes him home. Bear's story is one of heartbreak, survival, and a love that refused to be extinguished. What he lacks in legs, this sweet, resilient boy makes up for in spirit and in soul. Bear is 4 years old , 65 lbs of pure, gentle loyalty , A proud, brave 3-legged tripod who moves through life like a miracle on paws He once lived peacefully with a cat, kids, and a full house of love As a puppy, Bear's front right leg was amputated after a vicious dog attack when he was just a puppy . And yet like the orthopedic specialist once said ' dogs are born with 3 legs and a spare.' Meaning, they adapt. They heal. They carry on. But poor Bear that wasn't the end of his pain. In December 2023, he was surrendered to the city shelter two days before Christmas his muzzle and back torn open with fresh dog bites from yet another attack. He spent that holiday season scared, but became a staff favorite who melted hearts even in the darkest place. Then came his first real stroke of luck , In March 2024, Bear left the shelter and entered a foster home where he has remained ever since described as the 'perfect guest.' No barking. No whining. Just gentle gratitude and stuffed toys proudly carried in his mouth like love letters he never wants to drop. Bear loves to play more than walk balls are his favorite, but his stuffed animals are his treasures. He will carry them on adventures, not because he needs them but because he loves them that much. He's the kind of dog who: Leans in for kisses, Gives gentle, loyal eye contact like he already trusts you, Plays like a happy, goofy kid, Snuggles like a soulmate and even good in the bath Bear recently underwent 3 surgeries for a prolapsed rectum - all completely recoverable, and treated successfully. But healing takes time, grace, and patience. Something this boy has earned tenfold. And now, heartbreakingly the foster is giving up on him. Not because Bear isn't wonderful but because recovery requires effort. Because retraining takes love. Because accidents sometimes happen after trauma and medical procedures. And sadly, they are unwilling to give him the compassion he deserves and wants him out by the end of this week . Bear does well meeting other dogs, but due to his past trauma, should be the only dog in the home. He is non-reactive, gentle, and people loving he just can't risk being hurt again. He needs a human who understands that healing is not always linear. A home where love doesn't come with conditions. A place where resilience is admired, not resented. Bear's Personality Quiet, gentle, loyal Couch potato champion , Affectionate, friendly, and playful, Smart, loyal, and food-motivated, Gentle with people, kids, and cats, Loves kisses, loves kisses, loves more kisses , Loyal to his core, gentle in his heart, A snuggler, a kisser, a toy-carrier, a spirit-lifter , The ulti-MUTT companion If you are interested in learning more about Bear or if you can be part of the miracle that saves him please contact: Kat 516 457-3678 .
