JOY is a 6 year old, 11 pound Shih Tzu who needed a new home. She is a very cute, quiet, and loving little girl who will do best with a patient adopter willing to let her move at her own pace. JOY is a sweet girl who just needs a little time to feel safe. She can be skittish at first, but once she settles in, her personality begins to shine. In the beginning, she found comfort in an open door crate on her own terms, choosing it as her safe space for the first few days. As she grew more comfortable, she started following her foster around the house, and now enjoys relaxing on her dog bed in the living room. When she trusts you, she allows herself to be being picked up at times, cuddles on your chest when she's comfortable, and gives gentle kisses here and there. JOY gets along well with other dogs but isn't interested in playing with them yet. Her best home will have another little dog in it for her to share space with and gain confidence from. She's calm, low-energy, and not a big barker. Her experience with kids and cats is unknown. If there are kids in the home they should be older and used to small dogs. JOY is doing well with potty training and uses pee pads when needed. She does not use a doggy door, so she relies on her person to take her outside regularly. She is not leash trained, so a fenced yard would be ideal for her. She is food-motivated and enjoys meals and treats. At night, JOY sleeps peacefully on her dog bed in the living room. JOY is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
