%90%BE Meet Roxie - A 6-Year-Old German Shepherd Seeking a Loving, peaceful home. We are facing an incredibly difficult decision and are acting with the best interest of everyone involved, especially Roxie. %9D%A4%8F About Roxie Roxie is a 6-year-old spayed female German Shepherd who has been deeply loved for many years. She was originally adopted from another rescue at 9 months old, and her family has cared for her ever since. Unfortunately, due to escalating conflict with the female dog in the home, Roxie now needs a new environment where she can feel safe, relaxed, and adored. We are committed to caring for her until the right home is found, and we are willing to travel within reason from their home in Jasper, Indiana to get her to the perfect match. Distance is less of an issue tjan finding the right placement for Roxie. %90%BE Roxie's Ideal Home Roxie would thrive as: The only pet, or In a home with one male dog, as she has done well with males in the past Because she has not been socialized with children or cats, her behavior around them is unknown. Her current situation is an indoor dog with a 6-ft privacy fence. She MUST remain an indoor dog and we must absolutely know how she will spend any outside time. Our priority is finding a home where she can be safe, happy, and deeply loved. Roxie's Personality: 'Roxie is all the things.' She is sweet, loyal, and deeply affectionate - especially when she's getting attention. She thrives on kindness and gentle handling, and with someone who understands her sensitivities, she will absolutely flourish. Some highlights: Very sweet and loves affection Startles at harsh sounds (suggesting rough treatment before rescue), more as tone of voice. She is NOT bothered by fireworks nearby or thunderstorms. We live a very quiet life and would expect the same for her going forward. Small for a German Shepherd, but strong on leash Excellent watchdog - barks when someone approaches but becomes friendly once she feels safe Loves playing keep away Low maintenance and not overly active Adores carrots as snacks. Also loves raw bones. Never rawhide or cooked/smoked/roasted bones. Does not dig, chew furniture, or challenge gates/fences Enjoys couch naps and quiet companionship Crate trained, but does not need to be crated once she feels at home. Would recommend creating g at first so she feels safe, but not excessive crating being gone all day at work. She doesn't deserve that. We let her have run in the back half of the house (kitchen and dining room) with her bed. Has never destroyed anything when left alone If someone wanted to pet her anytime she wanted attention, she'd be the happiest dog in the world. s%A0%8F Why She Needs a New Home Roxie lived peacefully for years with a male dog in the home. However, when a female puppy joined the family, things began to shift. After months of what seemed like positive interactions, Roxie unexpectedly showed aggression toward the other female dog in the home during outdoor interactions. These incidents escalated, leading to injuries. Despite supervision and attempts to manage the situation, it became clear that this combination was no longer safe for either dog. Indoors, Roxie never displayed aggression - the issues have only occurred outside - but the safety risk is now too great to continue. 'I have never, in all my years of owning dogs, ever surrendered one--even when nearly facing homelessness. But it's unfair to Roxie - and unfair to the other female dog - to continue a potentially dangerous situation. Roxie deserves a home where she can flourish. This decision is made out of love, responsibility, and a commitment to protect both dogs. %8F Roxie's Perfect Match Roxie is looking for a calm, stable home where she can be: The center of someone's world An inside dog. This is non-negotiable. Treated with gentleness, patience, and affection Appreciated for her loyalty and sweet nature Someone who understands German Shepherds would be wonderful, but the most important thing is a loving home where she can finally feel completely at ease. NOTE: Adopting a dog is a commitment that could take some weeks or months for Roxie to feel comfortable. If a commitment cannot be made to take Roxie with the intention of this being her last home, please scroll on by. Roxie has never been around children or cats. For a successful placement it would be best to avoid both.
