Meet Lemon: This dog is a little rascal. He is cute but likely has some genetic problems leading to some of his behavior issues and will require on going behavioral support. -- Good with other dogs. Keeping in mind he is prone to resource guarding so the environment will need to be managed smartly, i.e. picking up bones and toys. -- Cage/fence/restraint aggressive towards some people, mainly men, and dogs, and other animals. Out of the cage or loose he tends to respond very different. Sounds terrible but is pretty benign since he is behind a barrier. -- Resource guards (aggression) very manageable and continues to receive behavior modification until adopted with an option to continue support after adoption. This is the reason he needs an adult only home to minimize risk. He will not be placed in a home with children. -- Loves horses! An ideal home would be someone looking for a small but mighty little dog as a barn companion. -- Ignores chickens mostly and could easily receive more desensitization to them to make sure it stays that way. -- Curious about cats. Kind of sees them as strange dogs. Hasn't had a lot of exposure and I think could quickly learn how to live in a home with a cat. -- Very active and highly intelligent. Needs experienced dog owner! Someone with experience training, grooming, and managing a dog with his kind of special needs. In the right placement you wont hardly know he has any issues. -- At-home grooming is a must to keep this guy healthy and tangle free. -- he can become aggressive when being restrained and handled by 'strangers' and against his will. -- Requires a very long time to warm up to new people especially men. -- Most groomers will refuse to work on him due to his aggression... He has been trained to be groomed by our program trainers and we have absolutely no problem grooming him now. In fact I groom him with no restraints and he never growls or displays any sign of aggression towards me what so ever. No issue using clippers or dermaling his nails. It is very possible and easy to groom him without hassle at home by trusted people who have the patience. Professional groomers just can't provide that kind of one on one time to get to know him and work with him so that he is comfortable. -- Lemon can learn and he learns fast. Obedience, agility, or rally obedience could be great fun with him. He should have been a circus dog! He will be happiest if he has a 'job'. -- Finally, let's not forget this guy is about the most snuggly pooch. He leans on you and will rub up on you like a cat. He adores massages and would jump at the opportunity to live the life of luxury receiving professional pet massages and acupuncture as a way to reset his tightly wound nervous system. (Well who wouldn't?) Of course these professionals would have to spend a little time getting to know him so he was comfortable with them working on him. *** If Lemon doesn't find a home he will be subject to euthanasia but we want to give this guy an honest chance. Lemon IS NOT a dangerous dog, he is just very MISUNDERSTOOD. This is coming from a behavior expert who has been working with him since he was a puppy.
