LOCATION: Terrell, TX DOB: 10/22/2021 Sparrow is a Great Dane-hound mix who takes the idea of togetherness very seriously. She is a full-on Velcro dog who wants to be involved in whatever you're doing, even if that's absolutely nothing. She loves people, never meets a stranger, and calmly allows grooming and veterinary exams without a fuss. Being close to her humans is clearly where she feels safest and happiest. Her energy level is refreshingly flexible. A fenced backyard is plenty for her daily needs, and while she's happy to go on a walk, one outing usually checks the box for the day. She's just as content snoozing nearby as she is heading out for an adventure, which makes her an easy fit for a variety of lifestyles. Sparrow is a smart, food-motivated girl who knows how to sit and shake, and she's always eager for a treat. When she gets excited, she has a funny little hop where all four feet leave the ground at once. Every now and then she'll let out an excited bark when she's ready to play. She's still learning how to enjoy toys and games-after spending so much time being a full-time mom, she's now figuring out how to just be a dog. She is fully house trained and does well in the car. Crate training is a work in progress; she's comfortable in a pen but hasn't spent time in a kennel yet. Leash manners are improving, and she generally walks well. Sparrow is muzzle trained and currently working on dog reactivity with structured socialization. She has been selective with other dogs and should be an only dog in the home, or placed with someone experienced and committed to continuing her training. She should not live with cats. Sparrow is frightened by storms and loud noises, including rain, and may jump or bark when scared. She has met dog-savvy 10-year-old children and did great, and she could do well with younger kids in a home that understands big dogs. One small quirk to know is that when she's comfortable and lying down, she can be a bit stubborn about getting up-no attitude, just commitment to being cozy. She can be an escape artist if she really wants out, chewing through leashes or hopping dog gates, though she has not attempted to leave a fenced yard and does fine with a four-foot fence. Her ideal home would be with someone who is home often or works from home and truly enjoys a constant companion. Sparrow was rescued from the shelter with her four babies, and now that they're heading off to their own homes, it's finally her turn to enjoy a peaceful, people-centered life of her own. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .
