About BOOMER

Adoption Fee: $450
Yorkie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

BOOMER is a 4-year-old, 5 pound Silky Terrier who came to us as an owner surrender. He was in pretty rough shape when we got him but he is the cutest, scruffiest little guy! For someone patient, understanding, and willing to continue his training and routine, he offers a huge payoff in love and devotion. BOOMER is deeply affectionate and forms strong bonds with his person once he feels safe. It took some time for trust to build, but once it did, he fully committed. He now seeks out affection and loves nothing more than cuddling in a lap or sleeping close by. He can be wary of new people and will bark intensely when visitors arrive. If someone he doesn't know reaches for him unexpectedly, he may try to nip (he doesn't have any teeth), but with patience and slow introductions he does settle. He has already made friends with a few repeat visitors and continues to improve. With other dogs, BOOMER is still a work in progress. He shares his foster home with another little dog and while they do play together most of the time, Boomer can occasionally become jealous or overstimulated. Since he's toothless, his behavior may be annoying to another dog, but it is harmless. If he is in a home with another little dog it should be one that is playful and tolerant. He would also be fine as an only dog with lots of love and attention from his family. He will not be happy spending long hours alone though. A home with kids is a good fit for him and we have not had him around cats. BOOMER rides well in the car, enjoys spending time in the yard, and shows some interest in small toys. He can be a bit possessive over them, but it's manageable. He doesn't bark excessively, aside from alerting in the yard or when hearing noises like a doorbell. BOOMER is making steady progress with potty training but is not fully reliable yet. He does well when taken outside and almost always goes potty on walks, which he absolutely loves! He leaps into his harness and walks beautifully on leash. However, he does not ask to go out and requires close supervision indoors to avoid accidents. He clearly had no potty training before he came to us and he currently wears a belly band inside. A fenced yard may be optimal to continue the potty training. At night, BOOMER is flexible. He sleeps well in a crate and will alert when he needs to go out. He also enjoys sleeping in a large bed near his person, though he still needs a belly band in that setting and close supervision due to occasional accidents. When BOOMER first came into rescue, he struggled with tummy issues, and his foster mom worked diligently to figure out what his system needed. With Omeprazole and a Digestive Care diet, his digestion has greatly improved and his potty issues are nearly resolved. His adopter would need to be willing to continue this regimen for his health and to maintain his progress. BOOMER is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
