Kirby is a medium sized herding type dog about 4-5 years old, who loves his people with an intense passion and wants to be with them as much as possible. He has been with his current family for about two years; he was adopted from a shelter and his early life is unknown. Kirby is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and in good health. He is very snuggly and will sit on your lap if you let him. He would do best in a quiet environment where there are not too many people coming and going. Kirby is very protective of his home and will try to nip people he does not know. He enjoys his twice daily walks and does well on a leash. He does like to chase squirrels whenever possible. Kirby finds bicycles, large trucks and runners very troubling, and we have been training him to check in with us when he feels anxious. He loves his little salami rewards that he gets when he does not bark at these things. He is complimented on his cuteness wherever he goes. Kirby currently lives with a cat but would probably prefer to be the only household pet. He is indifferent to other dogs. He's 50% cattle dog with other herding breeds, so he needs someone who is experienced with high-energy and super-intelligent dogs. He's not so sure about what to do with dog toys, but he does like cat toys! He is nervous around sudden noises like toasters, blenders, and leaf blowers but with the proper training and motivation can overcome these triggers. At heart he is a good dog who is eager to please, but at the moment has some limitations. We have worked with him on many of his issues and he has made good progress. Kirby's current family is expecting twin babies, and are sad to let him go, but hoping to find Kirby a new home where others can dedicate the time and attention to continuing his training, and where he can be happy.
