Courtesy Posting: OAKLAND, CA (N CAL) - ID #73791 -SHY CHOW GIRL 'MARCY' MADE RESCUE ONLY - 12/23 DEADLINE TO COMMIT OR WILL BE EUTHANIZED, her daughter and other dog from this home already euthanized, please help us find a foster and rescue before it is too late for sweet but shy Marcy X URGENT AT OAKLAND ANIMAL SERVICES- NEEDS CHOW SAVVY FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT AND RESCUE - former owner says very sweet, dog friendly The Oakland shelter is asking for urgent help to place Marcy who has been made Rescue only for being a typical scared and shy chow in a shelter. Marcy is on a short deadline of 12/23 for a rescue to commit, although the shelter may work with a rescue to actually exit her just after Christmas with a plan in place. However, we need a foster to step up so a rescue can save her, as rescues need a place for a dog to go. Marcy is said to be only 46 lbs, 4 years young and already spayed. She has no reported medical issues, although she was placed on trazadone and gabapentin for fear and anxiety. Unfortunately, Marcy was surrendered along with several other dogs in this home for being 'aggressive towards the resident cat. Her owner says that she is very sweet once she trusts you and she would take her on walks in the neighborhood. All the dogs were living in the back yard. Marcy's a surrender because some of the dogs in the household attacked the owner's dad's cat. She also came in with two of her daughters who we are told are part chow/part cattle dog.' The owner did not give details with regards to the cat situation so it is unclear if one or more attacked the cat, but it sadly did not survive. We are therefore requesting no cats in the home as a precaution. Marcy has lived with several other dogs and had a litter just over a year ago. The shelter also let us know, 'We actually just did her dog/dog and she was polite, gentle and definitely perked up. Marcy is pretty classic chow but since we can't touch her yet (she does approach and touch us at times), we can't make her available. She does have a deadline of next week 12/23 to have a plan in place. Her daughters are Carmela and Solange. Carmela is much more social than her mother even though she takes time to trust, but once she does, she's very endearing.' 'We have decided to make her available by appointment which means that potential adopters need to send in an adoption questionnaire and our adoption team will screen and talk with the PA and if appropriate, set up a time to meet. I believe that these dogs have been mostly outdoor dogs but they do try to 'hold it' in kennel - again something that I've seen in other chows. Solange actually bit a volunteer today - fairly significant bite so she will be euthanized. ' The shelter said it was 'from user error when the volunteer grabbed the dog as she tried to run out a door, so sad, this dog was only 1 year old. They also let us know there was 4th mixed dog who was euthanized as well, and said to be the mean dog in the home by the former owner.' We therefore want to find placement for Marcy, as well as her remaining daughter, Carmela, asap, before these dogs are also euthanized. The daughter was only 1 year old, awful! Marcy is Rescue only, while Carmela may be considered for adoption. Please note they do not need to go to the same home or foster. Marcy is Rescue only at this time, meaning only a rescue group can pull her out of the shelter. Rescue groups need fosters to save her though. Again, the deadline to commit is 12/23. Therefore, if you can foster or foster adopt, rescue, or need further help, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network, who is trying to assist the shelter with their placement, and we will try to connect fosters with a willing rescue. If you are a rescue group and can help Marcy and or Carmela, please also contact the shelter asap and ask for Martha the rescue coordinator there. Call 669-223-1346 and email [email protected] To adopt Carmela (ID #73792) , please contact Vivian, the adoption coordinator at (510) 213-8402. The Shelter main line is (510) 535-5602. Please note the proper ID.
