If you love beautiful bull dog mixes with loving and stable energy, please consider 1&1/2 year old Levi (#A1253621) at Polk County Animal Services. Levi was found starving in a field in Lakeland and is around 15-20 lbs underweight. I adopted him at the shelter's Christmas event last Saturday and had to return him for severe diarrhea and mounting my unaltered female. I wasn't aware before I adopted him that he had only been neutered 2 days before, so there was a chance to impregnate. ChatGpt believes the diarrhea is giardia from drinking contaminated water which is easily treated. (He was already dewormed for other things.) Though recovering from starvation, neglect, and shelter stress, Levi is a beautiful dog inside and out with a very balanced energy. He is house broken and walks great on a leash. (He will pull the first minute before settling in for a nice slow stride.) He has the most beautiful, deep, bay/bark that he holds in check unless it is really needed--and listens well and redirects on command. He looks to be part pit bull/bull dog and part English pointer, or other hunting dog. Despite this, he showed no prey drive on walks among ducks, cats, turtles, etc. He loves to lay his head in your lap and look up into your eyes. Just a really good dog with steady and responsive energy. Except for the mounting, he played really well with my female who was half his size and did not growl or react to neighborhood dogs while in my care. Someone please give this good boy a chance. I know adoptions at the shelter are free for the rest of December. Polk County is a high kill shelter.
