Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Courtesy Posting: URGENT AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5155181 -'LADY BEAR' AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- ADOPTABLE and BEAUTIFUL FEMALE CHOW - NEEDS LOVING FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER AND RESCUE- people, kid and dog friendly per former owner, but no cats We are in urgent need of finding a responsible forever home or foster for dear 'LADY BEAR', ideally someone who is chow savvy. She was surrendered with her son, a male chow pittie mix named Burger who is also urgent and can be adopted separately (or could be adopted together too). Owner surrender notes state they had her since she 'WAS 4 MONTH OLD. LOST HOME AND CANNOT CARE FOR THIS DOG.' They describe her as 'FRIENDLY WITH OTHER DOGS IN HOME. THIS PET DOES GET EXCITED ABOUT SEEING OTHER DOGS AND WILL TRY TO PULL TOWARDS THEM/BARK AT THEM. LOVES PEOPLE. LOVES CHILDREN. PET HAS BEEN AROUND CHILDREN OF ALL AGES INCLUDING NEWBORN. THIS PET SOMETIMES WILL JUMP UP ON SMALLER CHILDREN. WILL PULL TOWARDS OTHER DOGS. RESPONDS TO NAME. KNOWS SIT, STAY, WAIT, UP, EAT'. The owner further clarified she has not shown aggression to people, but did snap at dogs in home if there were special food (human food) in bowl, so feeding separate would be recommended. Lady Bear was kept both inside and outside, and unfortunately did chase and kill a cat with the other dog in the home, so no cats please or little critters. She is said to be potty trained. Shelter behavior notes further state, 'Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Takes treats nicely, Easy/Loose Leash, Calm, Appeared interested when walking past kennels, Sit, Practically put her own head into leash. In yard, went to fence often to observe dogs on other side. Loud barking did not intimidate & she wagged tail a lot. Appeared to want to be w/them in friendly way. Liked stroking on face. Explored yard, very interested in surroundings.' Additional behavior and medical details may be found on her listing link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A5155181 . Lady Bear is said to be 51 lbs and 4 years young and will be spayed for a new home. While she is currently adoptable, she may become Rescue only and or also be soon at risk soon due to space, or if she declines in the shelter environment or gets any sicker. Right now, she is recovering from an upper respiratory infection and is finishing antibiotics. Since she is not Rescue only at this time, you may contact the shelter directly to adopt her. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchip. We are ALSO looking separately and ideally for a foster for her and/or Burger, although they do not need to go to the same home. If you may be interested in adopting Lady Bear and or her son, or fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for their rescue if needed), please email: [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, AND also fill out a foster application on https://dogfoster.org/ so both entities can work on pairing a foster to a rescue group to help. Adopters and Rescue groups should contact the shelter directly at [email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387 and providing ID.
