He was surrendered with his mom, a chow named Lady Bear, who is also urgent and can be adopted separately (or could be adopted together too). Owner surrender notes state they had him since he was born, and stated, 'CANNOT CARE FOR THIS DOG.' They describe him as 'FRIENDLY WITH OTHER DOGS IN HOME. BARKS AT NEW DOGS. LOVES PEOPLE. GOOD WITH CHILDREN. HAS BEEN AROUND CHILDREN OF ALL AGES FROM NEWBORN TO LATE TEENS. PET DID WELL WITH ALL CHILDREN INCLUDING YOUNG ONES. BARKS AT STRANGERS . CRATED SOMETIMES. WILL PULL ITEMS INTO CRATE AND CHEW THEM. RESPONDS TO NAME. KNOWS SIT, STAY, WAIT, UP, EAT'. Burger was kept both inside and outside, and unfortunately did chase and kill a cat with the other dog in the home, so no cats please or little critters. He is said to be potty trained. Shelter behavior notes state, 'Easy to pull from kennel, Moderate to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Takes treats nicely, Easy/Loose Leash, barking on approach but settles once gate is opened, slight head duck, avoids barking dogs on way to yard, flinches when first being pet, prefers under chin and neck, stands near me and allows more petting with time, becomes more comfortable with time, stays near me for treats'. Burger is a bit shy when meeting new people as is common with chow mixes (mom is a chow or chow mix). While he is currently adoptable, he may become Rescue only and or also be soon at risk soon due to space, or if he declines in the shelter environment or gets sick again. He recently recovered from an upper respiratory infection and finished antibiotics. Since he is not Rescue only at this time, you may contact the shelter directly to adopt him. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchip. We are ALSO looking separately and ideally for a foster for him and or Lady Bear, although they do not need to go to the same home.
