Tazh is a 14 month old German Shepherd /Yellow lab mix. We bought him from someone in Phoenix when he was 3 months old. He had clearly been neglected as he was only 12 lbs. We know they had small children in the home and we can only assume they were allowed to handle him without guidance. From a young age he did not like kids outside the family. He has been fine with our family (2 adults and 4 boys ages 7-14). When he was young (4 months but still small) he bit a couple kids. We chalked it up to the situation (of him feeling cornered). But then it happened again and he bit extended family on a couple of occasions. It's more reactivity and fear, not aggression. We think it could be trained out of him with the right owner, but we are not in a place to be able to provide this for him. So far everyone has been understanding and it hasnt been a big issue. However, after months of diliberation, we have made the painful decision to try to rehome him before something bad happens. We believe it's in his best interest (as well as what's best for our family) to try to rehome him to someone who is willing to work with him. He is so very shy and it takes months for him to warm up to people and we live far from town so can't provide the gentle socialization he needs to get over it. We did this when we first got him but this was not enough, considering his trauma. Hopefully a gentle and firm person can help him so he can become a friendly dog. As of right now, we can't take the risk of him biting someone when we travel to extended family. Last resort is to surrender him and we really don't want to do this.
